Death Stranding 2 On the Beach

If you followed the recent previews for Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, you likely noticed similarities to director Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series. The latter acknowledged the increased focus on action and how it’s more like the acclaimed stealth series after feedback from fans.

However, Kojima believes the sequel is an updated version of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. “I felt that myself when I played the game,” he told Edge in its 411th issue (transcription via GamesRadar).

Launched in 2015, the title received extensive acclaim for its stealth sandbox gameplay. While you’re not flying through tar pathways to continents like Australia, Kojima feels that returning to the DHV Magellan offers “the same feeling as returning to the plant in Metal Gear.” The “plant” refers to Mother Base, which players could customize and equip with different personnel throughout the game.

Whether Death Stranding 2: On the Beach embraces the same customization is unknown, but you can access VR Challenges in Private Rooms across the game. The publication notes a similar feeling to the VR Missions from Metal Gear Solid, including some familiar sound effects.

We’ll have to wait for more details, but it won’t take long. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches on June 26th for PS5, having recently gone gold.
