Developer Myrkur Games has released a new trailer for its upcoming open-world action RPG Echoes of the End, this time around giving us a showcase of what the in-game combat will be like. The trailer, which you can check out below, features protagonist Ryn take on a variety of enemies through a blend of melee combat as well as magical spells.

While the hack-and-slash combat looks pretty great, thanks to heavy sword swings that feel quite impactful, the trailer also shows off the fact that Ryn can team up with her ally Abran to finish off an enemy with a team-up attack. One of these attacks, as shown in the trailer, had Abran kick an enemy to throw them off balance while Ryn finished this enemy off with a final swing of her sword.

Abran himself is also capable of quite a bit of support in combat, not just through the use of his magical spells, but also by pulling off some combat maneuvers, including a dropkick that helps Ryn better manage multiple enemies. Later in the trailer, in a fight against a larger enemy, Abran is even able to stun the target with a lightning spell, giving Ryn time for a counter-attack.

While melee combat is likely going to be the bread-and-butter of the game’s fights, the trailer also showcases some of the spells that Ryn has at her disposal. Alongside being able to enchant her sword with magic to do more damage, Ryn can also bust out a big spell that can pick up a target and slam them against the ground for extra damage. When dealing with multiple foes, she can even slam the ground with a big spell herself to send out shockwaves, throwing off the balance of her foes.

While we get to see quite a bit of the combat from Echoes of the End, the trailer, unfortunately, doesn’t showcase too many different types of enemies. Most of the fights in the trailer are against human soldiers that are essentially wearing similar armour, albeit making use of different weapons. The one non-human monster we get to see is also a similarly-armoured fantasy creature, much like an ogre or a large orc.

Myrkur Games had confirmed earlier this month that Echoes of the End will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on August 12. The release date was announced with a new trailer, which gave us a look at how the combat and magic of the universe works.

Echoes of the End puts players in the shoes of Ryn, who must set out on a quest alongside Abran to not only find her kidnapped brother Cor, but also to try and figure out why the neighbouring kingdom of Reigendal decided to launch an attack in the midst of her duel with Zara.

The game is slated to not only feature plenty of combat, but quite a bit of puzzle solving as well. Puzzles in the game will make use of Ryn’s abilities to make use of gravity-defying magical spells.
