As a game that’s releasing as a PS5 console exclusive, Square Enix’s upcoming open world action RPG Forspoken is going to have to live up to high expectations, especially in the visuals and technical department. While the exact details of its technical elements are yet to be revealed, what can we expect from the game’s performance and resolution targets on the PS5?

Speaking to Ungeek, creative producer Raio Mitsuno confirmed that Forspoken will have three separate visual modes on the PS5. There will be a Performance Mode, which will run at 1440p and 60 FPS, and a Graphics Mode, which will run at 4K and 30 FPS. There’s also going to be a Ray Tracing Mode, though there’s no word yet on what the performance and resolution will be there.

Meanwhile, game director Takeshi Aramaki has also confirmed that the game will be leveraging the DualSense’s unique features, with the adaptive triggers being tuned to react to different magical attacks in different ways.

“We really have included a lot of unique PlayStation 5 hardware features when we were developing this game,” Aramaki said. “For example, using the adaptive triggers, we added tactile feedback when you’re using the different types of magic. We’ve got lots of different magic spells you can use in the game, and the planners and designers sat down and worked out how to differentiate the feedback you get from controller for each of the magic spells.

Forspoken launches on May 24, 2022 for PS5 and PC. The game will cost $70 on both platforms.
