Grand Theft Auto 6 Delay is a “Bummer,” But Former Technical Lead Believes Rockstar Will Hit New Date

"They had the chance to pick any date, and they picked May. I think it's an 80 percent chance they will hit it,” said Obbe Vermeij.

Those making plans to no-life Grand Theft Auto 6 after its launch this Fall will have to delay them to match its new date. While there may be concern over the same, especially with the lack of new trailers or details, former Rockstar technical lead Obbe Vermeij is more positive in his outlook.

Calling the delay a “bummer,” Vermeijj (whose credits include Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas) said, “The good news is that they are clearly confident they are going to make May. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have given a date.” And though there’s no guarantee that everything will be smooth sailing, he added, “They had the chance to pick any date, and they picked May. I think it’s an 80 percent chance they will hit it.”

Vermeijj also believes a second trailer “would be nice now to wash away the disappointment.” He previously said it would be unnecessary given the hype, but the delay changes things. Rockstar said it looked forward to sharing more information “soon,” but it didn’t provide an ETA.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on May 26th, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s set in modern-day Vice City and features two new protagonists. Despite the delay (reportedly done to avoid “brutal crunch”), parent company Take-Two Interactive still expects record net bookings in this fiscal year and the next.
