Bloodborne
In terms of balancing attention to detail, sense of scale and pacing, it’s hard to find many other games that do world design as well as Bloodborne (along with its expansion The Old Hunters). Every location, starting from Iosefka’s Clinic and leading through the Forbidden Woods, Brygenwereth, the Moonside Lake and the Nightmare Frontier feels impeccably designed in terms of gameplay and environmental story-telling. This is, for all intents and purposes, a cosmic horror fantasy and it runs at a brisk pace while still impressing with its Gothic architecture and grotesque creatures.
