Celebrating the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day later this week, as well as next week’s launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls next week, Insomniac Games has added two new suits to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. As part of a free update, one of the suits is designed to look like the ones from the movie, while the other is an homage to his design in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
The update hasn’t really brought along any other changes to the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with its changelog only mentioning the addition of the two new suits. The PS5 version, on the other hand, also got support for Enhanced PSSR and Power Saver Mode across PS5 Pro and PS5, respectively. It is also worth noting that, in order to access the new suit, players do not have to go out of their way to buy Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Both suits are only available for Peter Parker.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is coming to PC and PS5 on August 6th. Developed by Arc System Works, it is a brand-new fighting game that will pit various characters from throughout Marvel against each other in epic battles. Since it is a tag fighter, players will be able to pick four distinct characters that form their roster for any given fight.
The roster for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is quite expansive, with 20 characters available at launch, and more planned for release through DLC. The characters are split into five distinct groups: Unbreakable X-Men, Amazing Guardians, Fighting Avengers, Knights of Doom, and Samurai Outriders. Across these groups are Marvel characters like Spider-Man, Magick, Storm, Ghost Rider, Deadpool, and Captain America, among others.
When it comes to DLC, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is slated to kick things off with Cyclops headlining its Year 1 Pass. However, rather than being the character that many are already familiar with, the fighting game’s take on Scott Summers is Phoenix Cyclops from the Avengers vs X-Men crossover event. Thanks to the Phoenix Force being split apart, Scott gets a considerable power boost alongside four other individuals. The character will arrive in Fall 2026.
As for the base game roster, Arc System Works recently released a trailer showcasing the moves and abilities of Green Goblin. The character has seemingly been designed with zoning in mind thanks to a variety of gadgets at his disposal, including Pumpkin Bombs, Razor Bats, and the Goblin Survive. The same gadgets can also be used in close-range combos to further boost his damage output.
The fighting game recently went through an open beta test over the weekend, and players started discovering some of the issues that have been plaguing its PC version. Thankfully, Arc System Works has acknowledged these issues, which ranged from anti-cheat errors to frame rate dips, and worked to quickly fix them before the beta weekend ran out.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t the only way Insomniac Games is celebrating the upcoming launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The company has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine, which is slated for release on September 15th, will also feature a distinct anime-inspired costume for the titular protagonist. Similarly, the fighting game is also getting its own special costume for the character to celebrate Insomniac’s game.
