During Xbox’s Gamescom livestream, Capcom showcased some gameplay from the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override. The focus of the demonstration was one of the new bosses designed for the game – Tinkle Girl – as well as some of the new mechanics of the game, like the ability to use a variety of chips that confer different bonuses.
The ability to equip and use chips is a major system in Mega Man: Dual Override, allowing players to fine-tune their playstyles by picking the right one. The three chips showcased in the video are built for survival, built for firepower, and one built for offering the pure Mega Man experience.
The one built for firepower automatically charges attacks more efficiently. Along with this, players also get a custom chip that allows them to use double Charge slots. The one built for survival, on the other hand, allows players to create a barrier to block enemy attacks. The final one doesn’t provide any extra support. It does, however, give players the ability to call Rush.
We also get a look at the Dual Override system during the boss fight against Big Press Don. The mechanic requires a gauge to get filled up through combat, and when it’s full, players can use it to enter a new, more powerful mode that makes Mega Man stronger and gives him access to massive new attacks.
The Dual Override system also works alongside the equipped chips to change the kind of super powerful attack that Mega Man can pull off. More chips can also be acquired by spending special collectible screws that are hidden all over the game’s levels.
The gameplay demonstration was wrapped up with Capcom confirming that one of the game’s 12 levels will be based on a robot master designed by a fan of the Mega Man franchise. More details will likely come as we get closer to release.
Mega Man: Dual Override is being developed for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. For more, check out the trailer that was released earlier this week. It is slated for release in 2027.
