#4. RESIDENT EVIL 7
Resident Evil 7 was a true return to form and a return to the roots for the franchise in every way possible, and one of the biggest reasons for that was its setting. Taking a leaf out of RE1’s book, RE7 put the spotlight almost entirely on a single location. The Baker residence was a crucial part of the whole experience, and from art style to the incredible atmosphere to how well it was designed to how it encouraged exploration and puzzle solving, it was a joy simply existing within it. Later on, RE7 took players to salt mines, which were much more linear but were propped up by a really cool aesthetic, as well as a shipwreck, which not only boasts excellent level design, but is also absolutely brimming with atmosphere.
