After extensive controversy surrounding its $79.99 price, Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2 will cost $69.99 instead. In an in-universe tweet as the Earth Directorate, the developer said it knows this approach would not “bring peace to the galaxy, or even your local colony”, but that “we assure you all that we are here to fight for all colonies in every way that we can.”

The Premium Edition still costs $99.99, providing five days of early access and access to two expansions arriving post-launch alongside the Corporate Appreciation Premium Pack. The initial price followed Microsoft’s announcement in May regarding $80 first-party triple-A titles for the foreseeable future. It also confirmed price increases for Xbox Series X/S hardware and accessories.

When asked about the price last June, director Brandon Adler responded, “We’re a game developer. We love to make games. We don’t set the prices for our games.” He added that “You’d have to honestly talk to the Xbox folks” regarding the $79.99 price.

The Outer Worlds 2 launches on October 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It will also be available on day one for Game Pass.
