11. Half-Life 2
“The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world,” and with that, fans of the first Half-Life proceeded to smell the glorious ashes. You have to understand – as far as single-player campaigns in first-person shooters went, Half-Life was already amazing.
Half-Life 2 didn’t stop at one-upping it, both in terms of level design, memorable characters, and incredible moments. It revolutionized physics-based gameplay, especially with the Gravity Gun, and opened up a whole new world of possibility. Even if that doesn’t feel as significant for today’s players, Half-Life 2 is still a post-invasion odyssey – a hero’s journey like no other.
