12. The Last of Us
Naughty Dog’s reputation for excellent single-player narratives and adventurous atmospheres was already proven ten times over with Uncharted. But with The Last of Us, it marched to a different emotional beat, explored a different bond that would become one of the most iconic in gaming, and crafted an ending that still has fans emotionally conflicted, over a decade later. The sequel may have hit harder for a bunch of different reasons, but we’ll never forget that initial journey with Joel and Ellie.
