2. Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar Games was no stranger to a well-paced, atmospheric Wild West narrative, but it elevated its story-telling standards with Red Dead Redemption 2. The story of Arthur Morgan, Dutch Van der Linde, and the gang, the roots of their downfall that would resonate through generations, is told impeccably with gorgeous facial expressions, awe-inspiring environments, and impeccable writing.
Even if you veer off the campaign and into the open world, it’s packed with interesting side quests, and activities, whether you’re investigating the spooky outhouse (and the tragedy behind it) or helping a railroad get built. And the attention to detail – all these years later, fans are still discovering new things. Rockstar probably didn’t have to go this far, but either way, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an all-timer, though it’s still slightly below our top choice.
