Bungie’s struggles with the Halo franchise wouldn’t be finished until Halo: Reach but for many, Halo 3 stands as one pinnacle among many for the franchise. Its story picks up on its predecessor’s cliffhanger, delivering a spectacular conclusion to the war with the Covenant, while its multiplayer – from weapon balance and map design to matchmaking – represents the series’ peak. You could argue that it wasn’t a spectacular leap visually but it had Chief and Arby sort-of being bros and that’s all that really matters.
