14. Hollow Knight

Quality indie Metroidvania titles haven’t been uncommon over the past several years but Hollow Knight still ranks as one of the very best. The descent into Hallownest is punctuated with stunning 2D environments, responsive and crisp combat, and memorable foes all throughout, to say nothing of the epic soundtrack. The sequel, Hollow Knight Silksong, has been a long time coming but with how incredible the base game is, it should be more than worth the wait.
