Square Enix’s HD-2D turn-based strategy RPG Triangle Strategy is right around the corner, and soon, impressions and reviews from various media publications and outlets are going to be coming in to give audiences an idea of what to expect from the game. The first of those has now dropped, with Japanese outlet Famitsu having published its review (via Ryokutya).

Triangle Strategy has received a collective score of 35/40 from Famitsu, with three of the game’s four reviewers awarding it a score of 9/10, and the fourth handing it an 8/10. Praise has been directed to its visuals, as you’d expect given its focus on the HD-2D aesthetic, while the review also praises the combat and the variety exhibited in battles. The story is also highlighted, with Famitsu’s review praising it for its weight and stakes. Interestingly, however, the review does criticize the long gaps between the game’s story and combat sections.

Triangle Strategy is launching for the Switch tomorrow, on March 4, so we’ll have a much better idea of how it fares soon enough. A second, meaty of the game, meanwhile, is also currently available for free on the eShop, and will allow you to carry over progress into the full game.

If you’re on the lookout for more games using the HD-2D aesthetic, the LIVE A LIVE remake is launching in July, while Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is also in the works. Square Enix has said that it’ll release more HD-2D remakes of classic titles beyond those two in the future as well- read more on that through here.
