If leaks are to be believed, the upcoming The Game Awards showcase is going to be a big one, but though a number of major titles have already been confirmed to be receiving new showings at the event – including Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, Hazelight Studios’ next game, and more – one company that seemingly won’t have a major presence at the show in terms of new reveals and updates will be Xbox.
That’s as per journalist Jez Corden, who recently took to Twitter to state that though he’s expecting “lots of epic multiplatform reveals” at The Game Awards later this week, he isn’t expecting first-party Microsoft teams to have too much of a presence, thanks in large part to the fact that, as per Corden, the company has its own Developer Direct showcase planned for Q1 of 2025.
The last two years have seen Microsoft hosting Xbox Developer Direct showcases to kick off the year with major first-party reveals and announcements, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the company continuing that trend next year.
Other leaks have claimed that first-party Xbox title South of Midnight is going to announce a March release date at The Game Awards, though it remains to be seen how accurate that turns out to be, in light of Corden’s claims. Stay tuned for further updates.
what im expecting, without hard spoilers:
– not a ton from xbox first party studios, pending xbox’s own dev direct in q1.
– lots of epic multiplat reveals.
– other fun stuff.— Jez (@JezCorden) December 9, 2024
