Even until Mortal Kombat 11, Liu Kang was not having a good time in the series. Sure, he had that one victory over Shang Tsung and has gone toe to toe with Shao Kahn. But otherwise, Liu Kang has been murdered numerous times. It started with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – he was later turned into a zombie in Armageddon. You’d think Mortal Kombat 9 with its rebooted timeline would be nicer but Liu Kang died there as well. In Mortal Kombat X though, enough is enough – our man is officially a Revenant and takes over Netherrealm by the end, eventually aligning with Kronika in Mortal Kombat 11 to bring about the “new era”.
