MEW – POKEMON RED/BLUE
Remember the good old days when there were just 151 Pokemon? It’s hard to keep track anymore, but there are at least seven million Pokemon now. Of the original 151, though, the 151st, and probably the most legendary of them all (maybe barring Mewtwo), was Mew. When Pokemon Red/Blue first launched all those years ago, they immediately took the world by storm. “Catching them all” became a widespread obsession, but one Pokemon proved more elusive than most- we’re speaking, of course, of Mew. People knew that Mew was in the game, but they didn’t know just how to get it.
There were several theories that claimed to know how to catch Mew. One reasonably believable theory (which wasn’t true) was that you after catching all 150 Pokemon, if you went to the Game Freak building in Celadon City, you’d get a Mew. Another crazier theory suggested that if you used Strength on the truck parked close to S.S. Anne, you’d find Mew- apparently, this one really caught on, because the truck was the only actual real-life vehicle in the entire game, and for some reason, that was a good enough reason to believe that maybe Mew was hiding inside (or underneath?) it.
