Using specific third party apps to gain an advantage is nothing new for Pokemon GO and this has brought its fair share of bans in the past. However, in June 2017, developer Niantic also issued shadow bans to specific players, locking them out from decent Pokemon encounters. The shadow bans were temporary so anyone caught in the act eventually saw things returned to normal.
