Horizon Zero Dawn
For all of the credit that Horizon Zero Dawn has received for its imaginative world, story and presentation, it’s the combat that ties everything together. Aloy starts out with a bow and arrow, but her arsenal quickly grows until you’re wielding different bows, spears, rope launchers and slingshots against foes along with different ammo types. Each machine also presents an interesting challenge with unique weaknesses, whether it’s grounding a Stormbird or systematically dismantling a Thunderjaw and using its weapons against it, that makes each encounter fun.
