RAGE 2 Not Coming To Switch “Right Now”, Says The Developer

RAGE 2

Bethesda has probably been the single best supporter of the Nintendo Switch thus far, as far as third parties go. They have managed to put some of their best and most impossible games on the system, including Skyrim, DOOM and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, as well as the upcoming DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

But their support only makes the absence of some other games conspicuous. Such as RAGE 2, the open world post-apocalyptic action adventure game coming from id Software and Avalanche this year—it’s hitting PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but not Switch. Avalanche and id have both previously discussed this absence, and speaking to DualShockers, they mentioned the reasons for the game skipping the Switch for now again—the challenges are mostly technical, as you may suspect.

“Well, we’ve been looking into it. It’s just the technology, there are some challenges,” id’s studio director Tim Willits said. “But we’re always looking for future platforms and future people to work with. So, we like to investigate, but we have no plans for that right now.”

Given the fact that RAGE 2 is being built on Avalanche Studios’ Apex Engine, and not id Software’s engine as previous (and upcoming) Bethesda ports have been, it makes sense that RAGE 2 might present technical issues as far as a Switch port is concerned that other Bethesda titles did not. For now, RAGE 2 is only going to be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 14.
