Seeing any of the recent trailers and footage for id Software’s DOOM Eternal has confirmed that this is a big game. Along with new abilities, new weapons, and new secrets, there’s much more to do in the campaign than its predecessor. Creative director Hugo Martin affirmed this when speaking to GameSpot and revealed that the campaign would take over 22 hours to finish.

As Martin notes, “We’re hell-bent on engaging you from beginning to end. This is a 22-plus hour game.” With regards to the first three hours that recent previews have experienced, he also said, “You’ve seen more in the first two to three levels in this game than you do in the entire DOOM 2016, without question.”

Thus far, we’ve seen a mix of shooting, exploration, key-gathering, and platforming. There’s even more to look forward to though. “The fun is mastering it, because that power fantasy, you’re going to earn that… the game is just going to let you put it on display,” said Martin. “The third act of the game is just like, ‘Okay, let’s see how you do.’ It’s Bruce Lee walking into the dojo, just like, ‘I’m going to wreck 30 dudes,’ you know?'”

Furthermore, players will have different secrets to unlock and optional challenges to undertake. The Fortress of Doom has its fair share of things to do as well, like the Demon Prison, which lets you practice against different foes and adds more challenges as you progress. There are also armor upgrades, weapons, and alternate costumes to unlock.

DOOM Eternal releases on March 20th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia. Stay tuned for more details en route to release.
