Earlier this year, we got the surprise announcement that not only was their plans to re-release the original Mafia, it would be what appears to be a ground up remake of the classic gangster game. The title is set to come out soon, and now the developer is pulling back the curtain on it a bit, detailing one aspect of the original that will maybe make some sigh with relief in how it’ll handle its difficulty.

Chief Creative Officer for Mafia, Haden Blackman, spoke with USGamer about the game, and there he detailed how they plan to make the game more accessible. If you aren’t familiar with the first game, it was a challenging affair, and its open world structure was different than what most are probably used to. For instance, police were aggressive and realistic, meaning you actually had to obey the laws of the road, so things like speeding and running a redlight could land you in trouble. While the original difficulty will be available, there will also be options for those just wanting to enjoy the story without worrying about, though he doesn’t go into a lot of details.

“The original was a challenging game and that was part of its appeal,” says Blackman. “So trying to walk that line with our normal difficulty mode and make sure that it feels still like a compelling experience for those that remember the original, but doesn’t alienate new fans and players. We’re trying to solve that by providing you with control over a number of different options.”

Mafia: Definitive Edition will release August 28th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
