Bethesda first announced The Elder Scrolls 6 back in 2018, but even back then, it was abundantly clear that the game was a long, long way off from releasing. Right now, Bethesda Game Studios is, of course, fully focused on Starfield, which means that The Elder Scrolls 6 is at least several years away. Now, however, we might have an idea of how many years.

Known Bethesda insider SKULLZI recently took to Twitter to drop new details on The Elder Scrolls 6 that they’ve apparently heard from “a credible anonymous source”, and apparently, the open world RPG has now entered full development- though it’s still apparently in the early stages, which isn’t surprising. In January of last year, director Todd Howard said that the game was still in the “design phase” at the time, while earlier this year, it was reported that it was possibly still in pre-production.

Based on this new information, however, The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently targeting a launch in either 2025 or 2026- though of course, these are the kind of plans that can always change in the games industry, especially when they’re so far off in the future.

Meanwhile, SKULLZI also mentions that The Elder Scrolls 6 is set in Hammerfell. Interestingly, Hammerfell has been rumoured to be the game’s setting since as early as 2018. Meanwhile, other potential details in the leak mention that the game will have a political system, that betrayals, marriages, and factions in the game will actually matter, and that there will be no dragons in the game.

Interestingly, SKULLZI also mentions that remasters of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games are in the works at Wasteland developer inXile Entertainment (which is currently at work on a new FPS RPG), that an MMORPG based on The Mandalorian is in the works at ZeniMax Online (which is known to be working on a new AAA game), that a PvPvE game that “may surprise you” is in development at Roundhouse Studios, and that a Quake reboot is also being internally discussed at Bethesda.

Interestingly, XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker – another known insider with a decent track record – also took to Twitter to corroborate a good chunk of SKULLZI’s leak, saying that he’s heard much the same about The Elder Scrolls 6 (with the exception of it having no dragons) and about remasters of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

It should go without saying that all of this, as unconfirmed and unverified information, should be taken with a grain of salt, especially considering just how many stuff is mentioned in there that may or may not turn out to be true. There’s a good chance that a lot of these details, if accurate, won’t come to light quite some time either way, especially where The Elder Scrolls 6, which is still years away, is concerned.

Meanwhile, there’s plenty else for fans of Bethesda RPGs to look forward to, with Starfield due out for Xbox Series X/S and PC on November 11 this year.
