Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero instantly caught the attention of many with its debut this year, and though the bulk of that attention is probably down to the game’s intriguing setting and its promise of a fast-paced action RPG experience, it’s making some visual promises from a tech perspective as well.

For instance, developer S-Game has confirmed that Phantom Blade Zero will implement hardware ray tracing on both PS5 and PC. In a recent interview with Wccftech, S-Game founder and CEO Soulframe Liang confirmed that the developer has received support from both AMD and Nvidia for the implementation of hardware ray tracing, which will allow the game to deliver “impressive visual effects” without sacrificing frame rate.

“We have received great support from AMD and Nvidia,” he said. “They have provided their own hardware-based ray tracing solutions for both PS5(AMD) and PC. For our combat system that emphasizes speed, variability, and smoothness, maintaining a stable frame rate while delivering impressive visual effects is crucial.”

Liang has also confirmed that on PS5, Phantom Blade Zero is targeting 4K/30 FPS and 2K/60 FPS modes, though the developer is still trying to achieve 4K/60 FPS, so nothing is set in stone just yet.

Phantom Blade Zero doesn’t yet have a release date, but it will receive a 30-minute playable demo in 2024.
