Joker Studio has unveiled its new game, Sea of Remnants, with a trailer during Sony’s recent State of Play showcase. The trailer, which you can check out below, gives us a look at some of the surreal vibes it’s seemingly going for.

Paired with some folksy music, the trailer gives us a look at exploration, combat, and even what sailing a ship might feel like when Sea of Remnants comes out. Along with allowing players to take part in more pirate-oriented adventures, there are also fantasy elements at play, including mermaids and other underwater creatures.

The trailer caps things off with the protagonist meeting up with their friends before they seemingly take on an entire stronghold of what could potentially be rival pirates.

Sea of Remnants will have players take on the role of an amnesiac sailor who meets up with a mysterious goal that have decided to travel together because their separate goals will take them to the same places. Along the way, the player will have to sail through the cursed Sea of Remnants, where they also have a chance at getting their hands on plenty of riches.

The studio has described the design concept for Sea of Remnants’ characters as being made to evoke the feeling of “puppetfolk”. The design was accomplished by making use of vivid colours, expressive emotions, and other body traits that make the characters look like they might be puppets.

As for gameplay, exploration and the ability to upgrade the ship is a core part of Sea of Remnants. The game also features a dynamic weather system so that players will have plenty of challenges to take on as they sail through the cursed sea.

Sea of Remnants is slated for release in 2026 for PS5, PC, iOS, and Android.
