Just when you thought the year would end with no news about Bungie’s Marathon, the studio drops a new ViDoc on the extraction shooter and confirms its release month: March 2026. It retails for $39.99/€39.99/£34.99 – check out the latest gameplay below.
The launch content includes four maps – Perimeter, Dire Marsh and Outpost – alongside the UESC Marathon’s Cryo Archive. Players will unlock the first zone of the latter, which offers an end-game challenge when it launches in Season 1. You can also look forward to features like proximity chat, solo queue and a new Runner – Rook, who favors scavenging.
Other notable improvements include dead Runner corpses that decay over time, “deepened” environmental storytelling and more. You’ll customize weapons with mods, complete requests for Factions, and even progress a Codex to learn more about the narrative and earn new cosmetics.
The Cryo Archive is the first of free post-launch content, which includes new maps, Runners, events and more to come. Bungie is also, for a change, avoiding FOMO with the game’s Reward Passes, which won’t expire. Furthermore, you can purchase prior Passes and progress at your leisure. It also assures that survival “will never come down to how much money you spend.”
More details are yet to come, from a roadmap to “when you’ll be able to try the game as we get closer to launch” (indicating a beta of sorts), so stay tuned. Marathon will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
