After revealing that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation may take up around 200 GB, game director Naoki Hamaguchi has since noted that “A larger file size may not necessarily mean a better game.”
Not exactly the most reassuring follow-up, especially since physical owners on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will only get a single disc and must download the rest. That’s not even accounting for the sheer terror that Nintendo Switch 2 players may feel since Revelation ships on a Game-Key Card. “However,” Hamaguchi adds, “this title is the culmination of more than ten years of work from our development team and serves as the conclusion to the FF7 Remake series.
“We are committed to delivering a game that not only meets the expectations of our fans, but is also a work that we, as creators, can be truly proud of.”
In a way, it feels like he’s telling consumers not to let the large file size dissuade them. Honestly, anyone who’s made it this far is likely in it, regardless, but it’s still a nice consolation.
One reason for that file size may be due to the sheer amount of content in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Hamaguchi previously said it may have more content than Rebirth, whether it’s the addition of two new party members, Vincent and Cid, the new FITS for equipping different classes, the revamped Queen’s Blood, or dedicated late-game content (meaning players won’t have to play again on Hard Mode to experience everything).
Even if you focus on the story, there’s a lot to unpack, and we still don’t know what the DLC focusing on Sephiroth and Vincent/The Turks will add. Stay tuned for more details leading up to the game’s launch on April 8th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
