As part of its 40th anniversary, Bethesda Game Studios finally revealed The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, the official subtitle for its next mainline entry in the long-running role-playing game series. It’s a fairly big step forward, especially since it’s been more than eight years since its last trailer, but those expecting more will have to continue waiting.
In a follow-up tweet, Bethesda thanked fans for the decades of “shared memories” and said it can’t “wait to make even more together with The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel.” However, while development “continues,” it will take “some time before we’re ready to share more.”
It’s understandable given that the development team (and Xbox) likely want the release window or gameplay reveal for a big show. Maybe even save it as the “And one more thing” announcement at the next Xbox Games Showcase. But over eight years later, the prospect doesn’t exactly sound appealing to long-time fans.
On the bright side, Bethesda seemingly confirmed that Sentinel is set in Hammerfell five years after Skyrim’s events. Rumors also point to the titular Scrolls as the focus, though how and in what way remains to be seen.
If it helps, the studio is also working on Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters, and the former could be closer than Sentinel. Obsidian is also working with Bethesda on a brand-new Fallout project, but the timing on that remains a mystery.
