Forspoken Receives New Details on Avoalet Realm, Mini-Boss Fight

The details and gameplay for Luminous Productions’ Forspoken have been ramping up since its delay. Along with gameplay showcasing more combat and breaking down the different kinds of magic, we also learned about 20 or so spells that players could utilize. As part of its continuing coverage, Game Informer has shared details on the Avoalet region.

Compared to the desert landscape surrounding Cipal, Avoalet boasts more greenery (including an area called The Water Garden). Creative producer Raio Mitsuno describes it as “very blue and lush, with green and flowers and bodies of water.” However, it’s still suffering from the Break with its various animals mutated into violent creatures like bucks that use their antlers to strike. You’ll also encounter hostile birds while scouring for crafting components, whether it’s in a chest or an empty cart.

Story writer Todd Stashwick says, “The conditions are harsh, the human drama and problems are just as real as in New York even if the circumstances are heightened. The stakes now for Frey are more than just her own problems. It’s life or death for a lot of people.” As players venture through the world, they’ll discover areas like Refuges and the Lutetia Guild for crafting items and learning about Athia’s history.

Avoalet is also home to the Tanta of Justice, Tanta Prav. Due to the Break, she’s become corrupted, which extends to her Unjust Enforcers. While these are fairly easy foes, there’s also the Pitiless Arbiter who wields a giant axe for melee attacks and a set of scales for magic. It’s essentially a mini-boss that will test one’s skills. Eventually, Frey will travel to the city of Gyuzel and a castle town in the Depths of Corruption where more threats await.

Along the way, she’ll also pick up some useful loot like a blue cape (which apparently belonged to Tanta Prav before her downfall) that extends positive status effect duration. Forspoken is out on October 11th for PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
