Monster Hunter Wilds is close to breaking into the top ten of Capcom’s Platinum Titles catalogue, but it has a longer way to go to beat Monster Hunter Rise. The 2021 title, which launched on Nintendo Switch first, has reached 20 million sales, as announced in a new tweet. Check out the celebratory artwork featuring maidens Hinoa and Minoto, chef Yomogi, and Master Utsushi below.
The last figure was 19.3 million sold as of June 30th, meaning the action RPG has sold an additional 700,000 units since then and is now Capcom’s third-best-selling game of all time. Of course, this is separate from Sunbreak, which has sold 11.9 million units separately.
As for what makes it so special, Monster Hunter Rise marked a return to more compact environments after World and added the Wirebug. It also introduced several new monsters, from the flagship Magnamalo to the disturbing Khezu. There’s also the Rampage, which allowed for some tower defense-like missions. We don’t talk about the Rampage.
Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak are currently discounted owing to the Steam Autumn Sale, which may also have contributed to the new milestone. As for Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s received several improvements since launch, but many are likely waiting for its expansion, Ascendance, to launch in 2027.
