Silent Hill 2 Remake

Konami finally announced the Silent Hill 2 remake yesterday with Bloober Team in charge. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, the studio promises improved visuals with realistic lighting and environmental details. Furthermore, it will sport changes to the combat and overall gameplay, as seen with the over-the-shoulder camera.

However, it seems Bloober Team doesn’t have full agency to change too much with the game. Journalist Imran Khan spoke to people “close to the project” who said, “Konami has had an extremely short leash with Bloober in terms of changes or new content. I don’t think that means no possibility of changes, though.”

As for Khan’s read on the situation and whether this was a good thing, he responded, “I think Konami’s a drunk elephant stamping around in the dark, but thus far they’ve been pretty good at choosing partners for things and giving them as much or as little oversight as needed.”

The remake is only one of several projects that the publisher announced yesterday. There’s Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by Stories Untold developer No Code and Annapurna Interactive; Silent Hill f from NeoBards Entertainment with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Umineko author Ryukishi07 writing the story; and Silent Hill: Ascension, a real-time horror series where viewers can influence the outcome. Konami also promised that the IP would receive more new games from different developers.

So far, a release date hasn’t been announced for Silent Hill 2 remake, but it will be a 12-month exclusive for PS5 and PC. Check out the system requirements for the latter here.
