PlayStation CEO says the company wants to focus on making games that can be "enjoyed in different places and played in different ways."
Insiders claim that Microsoft and Bungie were in acquisition talks as far back as 2020, but couldn't come to an agreement.
While Bungie has been tight-lipped about the exotics being offered to the players with the release of the upcoming The Witch Queen Expansion for Destiny 2, it seems they might've leaked them themselve...
"Equally, we see the exceptional skills that PlayStation Studios possess offers the potential to enhance Bungie’s existing and future IP portfolio," says the PlayStation CEO.
"We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community," the developer says following its acquisition by Sony.
Sony's motivation for the deal is to boost its "own abilities to make live-service, multiplatform games" as per GamesIndustry's Christopher Dring.
Bungie says it will retain its independence even following the acquisition, and will continue to publish multiplatform titles.
