The Last of Us Part 2’s release date is something Sony and Naughty Dog have both been very quite about, but many have pegged it for a 2020 launch. Multiple reports over the last few months have claimed that the game will be launching in February of 2020, and now, another leak suggests the very same, while providing a much more specific date as well.
Swiss retailer Softridge has put up a listing for the hugely anticipated Naughty Dog title, mentioning that the game will be out on February 28th, 2020 (via ResetEra). The listing also includes three separate editions – a standard edition, a special edition, and a collector’s edition – as well as box arts for each of them (though these might not be final), which you can take a look at below. There’s also a screenshot of the retailer listing below, in case it gets taken down.
Curiously, another report from a couple months back the game would be launching in February 2020 with four separate versions. This leak, however, doesn’t seem to make mention of the fourth one (supposedly called Ellie Edition).
Though retailer leaks have been known to be accurate in the past, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. That said, recent developments do lend this a bit of credence. Naughty Dog and Sony have been ramping up marketing for The Last of Us Part 2 of late. For starters, they’re holding a media event for the game on September 24th, where attending media will get to go hands-on with a meaty chunk of the game.
On top of that, on the same day, Sony is also airing a State of Play presentation, and Naughty Dog have confirmed that The Last of Us Part 2 will be part of that broadcast. It’s possible that we might get an official release date confirmation then.
Either way, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything new, so stay tuned.
