2. Elden Ring
You could dismiss Elden Ring as “open-world Dark Souls”, but as FromSoftware proves, it’s the execution which ultimately matters. It took several lessons from other open world games and applied its own spin, creating The Lands Between with its share of secrets and horrors for players to discover. It expanded on the series’ solid combat with tons of weapons, spells and armor to discover, not to mention powerful bosses to fight. Perhaps most importantly, it offered an incredible sense of discovery that didn’t hold the player’s hand and massive areas like Royal Leyndell Capital to explore.
