Scarlet Nexus
While Scarlet Nexus may initially come across as akin to Astral Chain with the ruling authority in the city being responsible for the Others, it’s actually way more complicated. About 3,000 years ago when the Earth became uninhabitable, its survivors fled to the Moon. Upon developing the technology to re-inhabit the Earth, a section of colonists left the Moon and returned (including Yuito’s ancestor Yakumo, who’s revealed to be Karen Travers). However, a comet would pass by the Moon, bringing alien particles to the colony and mutating its residents into the Others. The surviving colonists there attempted to push the particles onto Earth but failed, and thus placed the same into the Extinction Belt, which meant the Earth’s residents couldn’t leave.
But with the power of the Red Strings, one could go back in time and theoretically prevent this whole disaster from taking place. This is the plan of the Togetsu faction and the squads led by Yuito and Kasane are essentially trying to prevent it. Which they sort of do after a final showdown with Travers, who wants to use the Red Strings to bring back his beloved friend who was turned into an Other. Suffice to say that there’s a lot going on and it’s fairly captivating once you get over the slow start.
