Returnal
Combining the high-octane arcade shooting of Housemarque with cosmic horrors, rogue-like gameplay and a gradually unfolding plot, Returnal feels like much more than the sum of its parts. As Selene, players traverse Atropos, seeking the mysterious “White Shadow” signal while attempting to survive against its many foes. The action can be incredibly tense but satisfying thanks to a bevy of solid weapons and upgrades, not to mention tools like the blade and grappling hook. As players explore the massive regions of Atropos, discovering audio logs from other “versions” of Selene, Returnal’s true plot unfolds in truly horrifying – and saddening – fashion.
