June 4 was the day that Sony had originally scheduled their long-awaited PS5 reveal event, but recent events – which have seen widespread protests in the United States triggered by the death of George Floyd – led to Sony delaying the digital showcase, with the company saying that they felt they needed to “step back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

While Sony are yet to confirm a new date on which the PS5 games showcase will take place, it probably won’t be too long of a wait before the same is announced. Sony recently provided a minor update via the description of the original brief ad for the event on YouTube, reiterating that it was delayed, and that they will be “in touch with a new date soon.”

While “soon” is by no means specific, given the timeline of their marketing for the PS5, one would assume that they’ll want to get the event going at the earliest possible. Of course, current events in the world take priority over any gaming event, so it would be understandable if Sony do want to take their time before they get around to talking about the PS5.

The Black Lives Matter protests in the US have also led to other companies in the games industry delaying upcoming events and updates, including EA with Madden NFL 21’s reveal, Activision with the next season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Epic Games with Fortnite’s next season, and CD Projekt RED with Night City Wire for Cyberpunk 2077.

Recently, IGN Summer of Gaming, the PC Gaming Show, and the Future Games Show were also delayed.
