Despite takedowns and subpoenas to Xbox and Discord for potential details on the source, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 is still suffering from leaks. On Twitter, the studio issued an official statement, calling them “heartbreaking for our team.”
“This is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time. We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has—from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.”
Regarding the Extended Look, which premieres on August 27th via Netflix before becoming available on YouTube hours later, Rockstar said, “It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.
“While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers, we hope that everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19.”
It went on to thank those in the community for their support. “Your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine. Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games. We look forward to sharing more with you soon.”
The length of the Extended Look remains unknown, but it would have been the world’s first exposure to the heavily anticipated open-world title’s gameplay. That is, until the leaks emerged. While Rockstar is apologetic up front, it’s reportedly doing everything it can to find the leaker, per Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who also claimed that leadership and employees were “angry” about the situation.
It’s easy to see why for the latter because even after increased security measures, which affected benefits like working from home, the studio has suffered another major leak. This follows its announcement trailer appearing online before the official reveal in December 2023 and a major alpha leak from September 2022.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 this Fall. Pre-orders have been “unprecedented and astonishing,” per Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. Stay tuned for further details until then, and check out our thoughts on the entire leaks situation here.
