Dying Light 2 Will Be Supported For Years – Techland

There won't be fewer players, even if next-gen rolls around, says producer Kornel Jaskula.

Techland’s Dying Light 2, which received some new trailers at E3 2019, is coming at an interesting time. Launching next year, the open world action adventure title will feature a world that’s constantly shifting by the decisions you make. But is it a good idea to deliver such an ambitious project for current gen consoles when the next generation is so close?

DualShockers spoke to Techland producer Kornel Jaskula about the same and were told that despite the upcoming next gen consoles, Dying Light 2 would still receive support. “We, right now, can confirm that we are going to support it for years,” said Jaskula.

Would support shift to Project Scarlett or PS5 mid-way through the game’s life-cycle? Jaskula said, “There are many consoles out there with the current generation so we believe that they are not going to be scraped just after the release of the new generation of consoles. There’s going to be many console out there that will still need support. Players will still use the current generation consoles so the market is going to be as big as it is right now. There’s not going to be fewer players.”

The development team has seen incredible success with Dying Light, which launched in 2015 and has received tons of support since. Along with a paid expansion The Following and several smaller DLC, we’ve seen free events, new modes, and much more. A lot of the content has been added for free, incentivizing players to continue investing their time into it.

Dying Light 2 is out in Spring 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’s being published by Square Enix.
