Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered PC Datamining Reveals Co-op/PvP References

A "Superior Spider-Man" mode, Red and Blue Teams, and more have been discovered, potentially for the sequel or Insomniac's unannounced multiplayer title.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is out now on PC via Steam and is the second biggest launch on the platform for PlayStation Studios since God of War. While users are working on mods and other tweaks, some interesting references to co-op and PvP have been discovered via data mining.

DniweTamp on Twitter found something called “Superior Spider-Man,” which seems to be a mode where players – who control Peter Parker and Miles Morales – can compete for the mantle of Superior Spider-Man. Some lines say, “If set and in co-op, Character2 will see this text” and refer to Red and Blue Teams.

While one may speculate on these being scrapped modes for the first game or even its remaster, these could also be references to upcoming modes in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Though Insomniac has stated that the sequel is a single-player title, it didn’t outright deny the possibility of multiplayer.

This may also be for Insomniac’s rumored multiplayer title, which the company has been hiring for since June 2021. Rumors around the same period indicated Sony was working on a new multiplayer-centric Marvel title. Though a recent Insomniac job ad specified “new IP development,” this could very well be a new multiplayer IP set in its Spider-Man universe. It wouldn’t be all that different from Sucker Punch’s multiplayer-focused Ghost of Tsushima Legends.

Time will tell though, so stay tuned for more details (and take things with a grain of salt). Check out our review for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC here. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out in 2023 exclusively for PS5.
