Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is an action-adventure game developed and published by Ubisoft.
It is a remake of the 2003 game of the same name.
Ubisoft says work on remakes of Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will remain unaffected.
"We really want to revamp her as a great character, even if she's not playable," says creative director Bio Jade Adam Granger.
However, the original also has "moments that need to be preserved visually and pacing-wise", the developers say.
The long-in-development remake reappeared at the recent Ubisoft Forward with a brief teaser trailer.
The remake's development was rebooted by Ubisoft Montreal – the studio that developed the original – a little over two years ago.
The remake allegedly rebooted development after changing studios, and will now also feature new combat and parkour mechanics, it's been claimed.
Development on the project was handed over to Ubisoft Montreal in May of last year.
Producer Jean-Francois Naud and game director Michael McIntyre reveal that the project is currently in the conception stage.
The company reiterates that the remake is in development at Ubisoft Montreal, but it still doesn't have a release date.
Shortly after delisting the game across multiple retailer sites, Ubisoft has confirmed the delay via an official statement.
Originally a collaborative project between Ubisoft's Pune and Mumbai studios, the remake will now be handled by the studio that made the original.
Known insider Tom Henderson claims Ubisoft has a second Prince of Persia game in the works, and that the Sands of Time remake is still very much in active development.
Ubisoft has provided a new rough launch window for the persistently delayed remake, and confirms it will be out sometime in fiscal year 2022-23.
"We will update you on our progress in the future and want to thank all of you for your unwavering support and patience," Ubisoft's message reads.
Ubisoft says it's "not ready to share any additional information just yet." The remake is also seemingly releasing in 2022.
Ubisoft haven't provided a new release date for the game this time.
Either announce it or put it to rest, Ubisoft.
Ubisoft feels that more time is needed to complete the game.
